Glenwood Springs Police search for more victims in sexual assault case

A 46-year-old Glenwood Springs man was arrested earlier this summer for allegedly sexually assaulting three juveniles, and police believe there may be more victims.

The suspect, Jesus Armando Granados Mejia, allegedly sexually assaulted three juveniles at various times over a nine-year period beginning in 2014, according to a Glenwood Springs Police press release. Police were initially investigating one assault and discovered the additional two victims during the course of that investigation.

Police Chief Joseph Deras said police believe there are more victims because of the “statements and behaviors” of the three known victims. He declined to elaborate, citing victim privacy. He said he didn’t know how many more potential victims there may be. But in a press release, the department urged anyone with information to contact police.

The victims were allegedly plied with alcohol, marijuana and cocaine before the assaults, according to the release. Police say that Mejia allegedly brandished a firearm in an attempt to get one victim to delete text messages. Deras declined to elaborate on Mejia’s relationship with the victims, other than to say that the suspect was in a position of trust over them.

Mejia was arrested earlier this summer, Deras said. He has since been released on bail and has an initial court appearance in November. A message sent to county authorities seeking charging information was not returned Wednesday night.
