A Glen Haven man who went missing in Larimer County on Friday evening has been found dead.
Jerry Allbright, 53, was last seen April 14 after he left his home on foot and did not return, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. Allbright texted family members early the next day saying he was lost in the mountains, and they called the sheriff’s office that afternoon after they couldn’t find him.
Cellphone data indicated the text message came from a mile and a half away from the road Allbright’s house is on, but search and rescue attempts were unsuccessful.
A search crew found Allbright’s body on Monday evening, about 1.8 miles west of Fox Creek Road, according to a Tuesday afternoon news release. Hazardous, steep terrain, with obstructions and multiple water crossings, forced the crew, for safety reasons, to return on Tuesday morning, accord to an updated afternoon news release. The morning recovery process took about three hours.
“While this isn’t the outcome we hoped for, we take comfort in knowing Jerry will be returned to his family,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please continue to keep them in your thoughts during this time of loss.”
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death. Foul play is not suspected, the sheriff’s office said.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who dedicated their time and energy to finding Jerry,” said Emergency Services Specialist Joe Owen, who led the mission. “While this was a tough outcome, the collaborative regional response allowed us to bring him home and provide closure for his loved ones.”
