Gabriel Landeskog injury: Avalanche captain back in Denver, plans to start skating

Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog arrived in Denver on Friday night and plans to skate individually Monday, a major step in his recovery process from a knee injury that has sidelined him for the entire 2022-23 season, a team spokesperson told The Post.

Landeskog underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in October and was initially estimated to have a 12-week timeline, putting him on track to return in mid-January. But he was later reassessed by the team and projected to return later in the regular season.

He has been away from the team and not in Denver for most of the regular season, rehabbing on his own. The Avs are not practicing Monday as a team, hence the plan being for him to get back on the ice individually.

“It started bugging him when he started training, getting back on the ice,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said in October after the surgery. “So they had it looked at, images taken. Decided on surgery.”

Last season, Landeskog tallied 59 points in his second career 30-goal campaign despite missing a chunk of the regular season. He had knee surgery in March 2022 and only played in 51 games, his fewest since 2012-13, but he averaged a goal every five shots. In the playoffs, he registered 11 goals, 11 assists and a team-high plus-15 plus/minus.
