Two Fountain police officers shot a suspect and fatally wounded the person’s dog on Saturday evening after the officers were attacked, according to authorities.
Officers responded to a domestic violence disturbance call before 6 p.m. near Taos Circle. As they were conducting their investigation, the dog attacked one of the officers and the suspect assaulted both the officers, according to a Fountain Police Department news release. Both police officers shot their guns at least one time, hitting the suspect and the dog.
The suspect was taken to a hospital. Police did not disclose whether the suspect’s injuries were life-threatening but said the person had at least one gunshot wound. The dog died at the scene.
One of the officers was also treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both of the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, per agency policy, until the conclusion of the investigation.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating the shooting.
No other details were provided in the release, and the Colorado Springs Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment Sunday morning.
