One man dead, four wounded after gunfight at apartments near Cherry Creek reservoir

One man is dead and four others are wounded after an assault in an apartment in southeast Denver near the Cherry Creek Reservoir led to a confrontation outside, which escalated into a gunfight.

Three of those shot were taken to the hospital in ambulances and two went on their own after the shooting shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday at 9600 E. Girard Place, Denver police officials said Thursday in a news release.

A 17-year-old boy, two other men and a woman are expected to survive their injuries.

“Preliminary information indicates that an assault occurred in an apartment, the victim left the apartment and later returned with other individuals resulting in a confrontation between multiple parties outside the apartment during which gunfire was exchanged,” the police said.

Police were investigating what happened, including a possibility “that the suspects are among those injured.”

The victim who was fatally shot is identified as 22-year-old Rodney Jackson Jr., by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

The police appealed to the public for help, asking anybody with information related to the shooting to contact detectives at 720-913-7867.
