One person has died and another has been arrested following a shooting Monday night in north Denver, according to a Denver Police Department post on X.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4600 block of East 48th Avenue, outside of Denver Rescue Mission, around 8 p.m. on Monday and found a man with gunshot wounds, according to a Tuesday news release from the department.
Denver police reported the shooting around 8:52 p.m. Monday on X. Fourteen minutes later, the department announced that the victim had been pronounced deceased on scene.
Police collected witness statements and quickly arrested a 40-year-old man who was still at the scene of the shooting. The man is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. Officials believe a verbal altercation between the suspect and victim escalated into a shooting, according to the release.
Denver Rescue Mission is working with Denver police as the department investigates the incident, according to a Monday night press release from the nonprofit.
“We will remain steadfast in keeping the safety of the Mission’s guests, employees and volunteers a high priority, as we serve the community’s most vulnerable,” the release states.
