A man who was riding a bike was killed late Wednesday in a crash with a motorist in Commerce City.
The crash, in the 6400 block of Colo. 2, was reported by the Commerce City Police Department on X at 10:15 p.m.
According to the announcement, the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene. The message described the victim as a pedestrian but noted they may have been on a bike. However, Commerce City police spokesperson Joanna Smalls confirmed the victim was a man who was riding a bike. She did not know his age.
Smalls said the male driver was traveling northbound on Colo. 2, but she did not know in which direction the bicyclist was traveling. She said alcohol and drug use were not factors and that she did not believe road conditions played a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
The crash closed Colo. 2 in both directions.
This is the third crash involving a cyclist on high-speed roads in Commerce City in two weeks. On Dec. 30, a cyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Colo. 2 and East 72nd Avenue. That victim, a 56-year-old man, is expected to survive his injuries. Smalls said Thursday the female driver was found by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the department’s Facebook page, another cyclist was seriously injured late Dec. 23 was a driver hit the man in the 5600 block of U.S. 85. That driver remained on scene, and speed and alcohol are not suspected in the crash.
