Two juveniles were arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder of a public official this week after police say they shot at an Englewood officer who tried to pull them over.
An Englewood police officer tried to stop a red Jeep Grand Cherokee for a “defective vehicle violation” around 11 p.m. Sunday near West Dartmouth Avenue and South Shoshone Street, the Englewood Police Department said in a news release Thursday.
The driver refused to stop, and after the officer turned on his lights, someone in the passenger seat fired more than a dozen shots at the officer, hitting the vehicle’s front end, engine and windshield.
The officer pursued the Jeep through an industrial area and neighborhood before it crashed and two people fled on foot, Englewood police stated in the release.
Police, a tactical team and K-9 unit were not able to find the two suspects Sunday night but recovered an AK-47 and shell casings from the scene.
Investigators were able to identify two juvenile suspects in the shooting who were arrested Monday and Tuesday. Their names were not released because they are juveniles.
No officers or community members were injured in the incident, Englewood police said.
