A Denver jury on Friday found a man guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a woman who was set to be a witness in a Pueblo homicide.
Emmanuel Chandler is sentenced to life in prison for the death of Roxann Martinez, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office news release.
On Feb. 25, 2021, Martinez was found lying in the street, a pool of blood around her head, near the 3800 block of South Wabash Street. Chandler, a former boyfriend of the victim, shot Martinez and dumped her body on the side of the road, prosecutors said.
At the time of her death, Martinez was to be a witness in a Pueblo murder case. Donthe Lucas was found guilty in March of 2021 of first-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Kelsie Schelling. Schelling disappeared in February of 2013. She was pregnant at the time and was the girlfriend of Lucas. Her body has not been found.
The jury on Friday deliberated for about six hours in Chandler’s case before returning with a guilty verdict. Denver District Court Judge Nikea Bland sentenced Chandler to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
