Eldora ski resort employee killed by falling tree

A staff member at the Eldora ski resort in Boulder County died Thursday morning after a tree fell on him.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded at 10 a.m. to a medical emergency at Eldora, outside Nederland, according to a news release. The emergency call to dispatchers mentioned there was CPR in process on a man.

Officials believe the 52-year-old staff member was helping with trail maintenance when a tree fell on top of him, according to the news release.

Ski patrollers gave medical care to the man, and a Flight for Life Colorado helicopter was requested, but the man died at the scene while aid was being administered.

The identity of the man will be publicly released by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, which also will determine the official cause and manner of his death. The sheriff’s office said the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this morning resulting in the death of a cherished member of our team.” said Sam Bass, Eldora’s marketing director. “We offer our deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. We recognize this event will profoundly impact everyone at Eldora, and we encourage every member of our team to contact the human resources department to access our grief and mental wellness resources. We are immensely thankful to our local emergency responders for their quick response and the medical assistance provided.”

Bass said Eldora’s team is working with local authorities investigating the incident.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, the Nederland Fire Protection District, American Medical Response and Boulder County co-responders all helped in the incident.
