One person was killed, a juvenile, and four others injured in a shooting in El Paso County early Sunday morning, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. in the 12200 block of Point Reyes Drive, a subdivision in Falcon, to the northeast of Colorado Springs.
Four people were shot — one fatally — and one other person was injured in another way during the attack, said Lt. Deborah Mynatt.
The shooting is not believed to be a random attack, Mynatt said, and “is likely linked” to a carjacking that happened Friday near Potter Drive.
The sheriff’s office ordered nearby residents to shelter in place at about 3 a.m. Sunday. That shelter-in-place order was lifted at about 4:30 a.m. Mynatt said the crime scene extends for more than a block, and investigators expect to be at the scene collecting evidence for “many hours.”
The names, ages and genders of the victims had not been publicly released Sunday. There are multiple suspects in the shooting, Mynatt said.
The sheriff’s office on Tuesday identified the the victim who died as a juvenile.
Both the FBI and the Colorado Springs Police Department are assisting in the investigation, Mynatt said.
Editor’s note: This story was updated on Feb. 7 to identify the fatal shooting victim as a juvenile.
