A 41-year-old man was arrested at his home in Aurora after emailing a bomb threat to the Douglas County sheriff stating a bomb would explode at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, authorities said Wednesday.
Aurora Police Department SWAT team officers arrested William Wright on Tuesday afternoon and he was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility on a charge of falsely reporting explosives, sheriff officials wrote in a news release.
The email received on June 11 said a bomb was in a box placed at the fairgrounds and specified a date and time, officials said. Police searched the fairgrounds and adjoining facilities. No bomb was found. Detectives then identified the author of the email.
“This is an example of how seriously the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office takes threats to the lives of our citizens,” Sheriff Darren Weekly said, lauding detectives for quick work tracking down and arresting this suspect.
