A man accused of attempting to abduct a 10-year-old child last week before the day started at a Thornton school is in jail, police said Tuesday.
Diego James Gettler, 28, was arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted second-degree kidnapping and booked into the Adams County jail in connection with the Sept. 23 incident at STEM Launch, according to a news release.
A 10-year-old student told police that “she was grabbed just outside of the school just before the start of the school day,” police said in a Friday news release. The victim “resisted” the attack and the suspect fled.
Officers were at the school for dismissal Friday afternoon as the Adams 12 School District performed a “controlled release” out of caution, police said.
Formal charges will be sent to the district attorney’s office later this week, police said.
