Man pleads guilty to second-degree murder in Denver shooting death

A man who shot a visiting couple in a Broadway parking lot as they were renting a car pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder.

On May 6, 2022, Derron Harris, 31, shot Patrick Huhn and his wife, Shannon Huhn, who were visiting from Cincinnati, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office. The couple was renting a car in the 300 block of Broadway when they were shot. Patrick Huhn died of his wounds. A third victim was injured by indirect gunfire.

On Friday Harris pled guilty to one count of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault, totaling a 60-year prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay $23,583 in restitution to the Crime Victim’s Compensation program. A formal sentencing hearing is scheduled on Aug. 18.
