A Denver deputy sheriff was arrested on suspicion of attempting to influence a public servant, leaving the scene of a crash and other charges, the Denver Sheriff Department announced Wednesday.
Jeremiah Espinoza-Young, 30, was arrested on Jan. 1, according to court records.
He faces charges of attempting to influence a public servant, false reporting to authorities, leaving the scene after striking unattended property and careless driving, according to the department.
Online court records on Wednesday showed Espinoza-Young faces charges of attempting to influence a public servant and leaving the scene of an accident after striking unattended property.
The Denver Sheriff Department identified the arresting agency as the Aurora Police Department, but Aurora police spokesperson Matthew Longshore said Wednesday the Adams County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest.
Espinoza-Young was put on investigatory leave on Jan. 3, according to the department. Denver’s Office of the Independent Monitor is aware of the situation and the Public Integrity Division opened an investigation.
Espinoza-Young was hired as a deputy sheriff in 2016 and assigned to the Denver County Jail.
