Technology issues that crippled the City and County of Denver’s website and phone services Monday were resolved Tuesday morning, government officials said.
Denver’s technology department is still examining the root cause of the issue, but officials believe it is related to a system update during routine maintenance, not due to an external actor or “hack,” according to Denver spokesperson Ben Danile.
In the Monday afternoon outages, some denvergov.org webpages were unreachable and returned an “error 500” — an error that happens when the server is unable to fulfill a user’s request.
The City and County of Denver’s website services for denvergov.org and city phone numbers were restored overnight, but there may be lingering issues as the technology team ensures all systems are operating properly with occasional tests, Danile said. 911 services were not impacted.
Some employees were asked to work from home Tuesday, but the city is operating as normal, Danile said.
