Winds that picked up across the area Sunday night are just beginning, as Denver could see winds up to 35 mph Monday and the foothills west of Denver have already gotten wind gusts over 60 mph.

Later Monday morning into the afternoon, the area will warm up during the mostly sunny day. Denver’s high is 59 degrees, and other parts of the metro area could reach 60 degrees.

Mountain areas and Front Range foothills above 6,000 feet are in a high wind warning, and some places like Breckenridge Ski Resort have already seen wind gusts of 84 mph. Areas closer to Denver, like Evergreen and Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge, have seen gusts just over 60 mph.

Areas that have had significant snowpack melt away may have some elevated fire weather conditions due to the windy weather.

There could be a lull in the winds late Monday afternoon into the evening, but they will pick back up late overnight into Tuesday morning and bring more risks of high winds.

The high wind warning west of the Interstate 25 urban corridor will last through noon Tuesday due to the chance of high winds returning.

Overnight in Denver, wind gusts will slow down some to about 15 mph, and the low Monday night is 30 degrees.

Tuesday will see another partly sunny day with a high of 60 degrees, then Tuesday night some rain and snow enter the forecast before another midweek snowstorm heads to town.

The storm looks to hit hardest north of Denver in Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties, and the Wednesday morning commutes in these areas could be slick. Wednesday evening could see enhanced snowfall rates and wind gusts up to 40 mph, causing blowing snow and some dangerous road conditions.

Wednesday’s high in Denver is only 31 degrees, and the low is one degree.

The sun returns Thursday and temperatures begin to rebound through the weekend.
