Denver weather: Rain possible, with a high temp of 55 degrees while storm warnings cover state

Storms spreading down from the mountains may reach metro Denver Wednesday morning, with any snow likely turning to rain as the high temperature approaches 55 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Denver residents can expect breezy conditions and little or no snow accumulation, the weather service said. Wednesday night, rain showers were expected before 9 pm with possible snow before midnight as temperatures decrease to 31 degrees. On Thursday and Friday morning, mostly sunny conditions with highs around 53 degrees were expected.

But elsewhere around Colorado Wednesday the weather service forecasters saw multiple extreme weather possibilities.

Winter storm warnings covered northwestern Colorado and the central mountains west of Buena Vista and advisories were posted for areas west of metro Denver. On the eastern plains, high winds were expected with a high wind watch covering Colorado Springs and the south-central parts of the state.

Avalanche danger warnings covered much of the state’s mountains, including the Aspen and mountains to the north. Fire risks also increased due to wind and relatively dry conditions, the weather service said, posting a “red flag” warning for Colorado’s eastern plains south of Limon and north of Eads extending to the Kansas border.

Snowfall in the mountains was expected to bring six to 12 inches, more in some areas, and forecasters warned of difficult road conditions resulting from snow and blowing snow.
