Denver weather: Possible severe afternoon storms could produce heavy rain and hail

Mostly sunny blue sky conditions over metro Denver on Wednesday will become cloudier as thunderstorms roll off the mountains and across Colorado’s Interstate 25 urban corridor in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

These scattered storms could be severe, producing heavy rain and hail, weather service forecasters said. Meteorologists estimated the likelihood of rain at 50%, decreasing later in the week. Flash flooding is possible, though not as likely as earlier this week, forecasters said.

Any storms likely will hit after 2 p.m. and then diminish. However, radar shows that another wave of weaker rain may spread over the city Wednesday night before 11 p.m.

The high temperature in Denver on Wednesday will be 86 degrees, decreasing to 62 degrees at night, forecasters said. The high on Thursday is expected to be 87 degrees.
