An unusually hot Labor Day is just the beginning of a hot week with near-record temperatures.
Monday’s high in Denver is 97 degrees, but forecasters at the National Weather Service said some areas of the plains could get close to 100 degrees during a high-pressure ridge centered over Utah that will continue through Wednesday.
“We`ll likely flirt with 100F across most of our plains this afternoon,” with mid-level temperatures several degrees warmer than Sunday, forecasters said.
A few locations across the area could also see record temperatures.
Forecasters also warned Denverites to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged periods of strenuous outdoor activities if possible.
There is a slight chance of light showers in the mountains, but any showers that form will be weak and short-lived.
The hot and dry weather will also lead to elevated fire weather conditions across the area.
Temperatures will plummet from the 90 and remain mild overnight, falling to the upper 50s and low 60s across the plains.
Record breaking high temperatures are a good possibility in Denver on Tuesday and Wednesday. Moisture will be pretty scarce through this period with a slight chance for a late day shower across Summit and Park counties.
