To many people’s disappointment, Friday’s temperatures will not break the week of heat the Denver metro area has been having.
Muggy conditions due to poor air quality Friday will be accompanied by a high of 97 degrees. Despite the heat, clouds will increase through the day, bringing a 30% chance of rain after 2 p.m.
In addition to the high temperatures, the National Weather Service has released an air quality alert for Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer and Weld Counties amid high ozone levels.
Possible flash flooding in northeast and north central Colorado also prompted the weather service to issue a hazardous weather warning on Friday.
Temperatures are expected to drop to an overnight low of around 66 and remain partly cloudy Friday.
Saturday could bring some relief from the heat with a high of 90 and increased likelihood of rain with a 50% chance after noon.
The weather service says that showers and thunderstorms are likely before 9 p.m. and could persist into the night.
Sunday will bring real relief from the heat with a high of 82 and precipitation chances forecast over 60% after 9 a.m.
Next week will continue the slightly cooler trend before heating up. Monday is expected to hit a high of 85 degrees before temperatures gradually creep higher as the week goes on.
