Denver weather: First freeze warning of season issued for metro area

Denver and all of northeast Colorado are in for a night of freezing weather as temperatures drop as low as 25 degrees overnight Friday into Saturday.

The first freeze warning of the season was issued for the Denver metro in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures in Denver are expected to drop to a low of 31 degrees Friday night.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder warn residents the freezing conditions could kill crops and vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

During the day Friday, Denver’s weather will be sunny and reach a high of 55 degrees, with some wind gusts of up to 18 mph.

Winds will die down by midnight, but the clear skies are what will allow Denver to get into freezing temperatures.

Those clear skies will continue through the weekend, but Denver will see a warmup beginning this weekend on Sunday with a high of 69 degrees. Highs will peak in the low 80s Tuesday before another cooldown later in the week.
