Police arrested Simon Eugene Elijah Gurule in Denver and a 16-year-old boy in Arvada on Monday in Manuel C. Luque Quintana’s death, the Denver Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. Police did not identify the 16-year-old.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 500 block of North Sheridan Boulevard at 6:26 p.m. June 8 and found one man, later identified as Quintana, with gunshot wounds, according to the department.

Quintana was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A woman who was also shot walked away from the scene but was later found by police near West Fifth Avenue and Zenobia Street and taken to the hospital.

Investigators found the shooting occurred when a suspect got out of the passenger side of a car and shot Quintana and the woman, who were seated in a parked car. Police identified Gurule and the 16-year-old as suspects through automated license plate readers and community tips, Denver police said Wednesday.

Gurule was previously convicted of felony menacing and third-degree assault, according to court records. He is in custody on a $1 million cash bail and is set to appear in court Thursday.
