A newly released arrest affidavit shows a 17-year-old suspect in the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl also shot a juvenile male at the same time.
Deontre Hollie has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Tayanna Manuel, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday in a news release.
Tayanna’s body was found by police officers early Dec. 26 behind a dumpster at 4927 North Sedalia St., according to the release. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
Hollie was arrested on Saturday by the Denver Police Department.
Hollie, who is suspected of shooting a juvenile male the same night that Tayanna was shot, is also charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon serious bodily injury, and tampering with physical evidence of a felony crime.
Investigators used cell phone records and witness accounts to put Hollie and Tayanna together on the day of the shooting, Dec. 23, according to an arrest affidavit.
Hollie, Tayanna and others in the afternoon of Dec. 23 went to an outdoor shooting range in Aurora where they fired handguns, a brown Glock 19x and a black and brown Glock 19x, before leaving and going to a residence, according to the redacted affidavit. Witnesses told investigators the pair left the residence together about 6:05 p.m., in a 2012 Honda SUV driven by Hollie, and only Hollie returned. According to the affidavit, Tayanna’s cellphone disconnected about 6:40 p.m.
Surveillance video shows the Honda arriving at 4699 North Kittredge St. at 6:37 p.m. Tayanna and the male teen victim were both shot there, and Tayanna’s body was driven to the Sedalia Street location where Hollie allegedly dumped her body, according to the affidavit. The vehicle is later seen on surveillance video about 6:45 p.m. in the area of the Sedalia Street site where Tayanna’s body eventually was found, according to the affidavit.
The male teen who was shot was found about 6:40 p.m. at the scene of the shooting after police responded to a 911 call about shots fired. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
After the shootings, Hollie allegedly returned to the residence where the group that had gone to the gun range were still gathered. One witness told investigators he had returned alone, without Tayanna, and that he seemed dazed. By 7:15 p.m. Hollie was in his residence, where he spent the night, according to investigators’ use of his phone records.
The Honda, which was reported stolen in Denver in November, was found on Dec. 29 in the parking lot of Addenbrook Park in Lakewood. Investigators found blood traces and bullet cartridges in the Honda. Investigators said phone records also connect Hollie to being at Addenbrook, where the SUV was abandoned, about 9:50 a.m. Dec. 24, the morning after the shooting. Investigators said Hollie used social media to arrange a ride back to Denver from the park that morning.
The shootings stemmed from a conflict over a firearm and a vehicle, according to the affidavit.
