Denver ties record high Wednesday, with more scorching temps ahead

Denver tied its record high temperature of 97 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature rose to 97 degrees at Denver International Airport at 3:53 p.m., tying the record high for the day last seen in 1952.

Temperatures are expected to reach 96 degrees Thursday, falling short of the record high of 99 degrees last recorded in 2022, according to NWS forecasters.

The heat will dissipate slightly on Friday with afternoon thunderstorms and a high of 86 degrees before back up to the 90s through the weekend.

Forecasters issued an air quality alert for the Front Range urban corridor through 4 p.m. Thursday for high ozone levels, including Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Larimer and Weld counties.
