A man was arrested Tuesday in Denver on suspicion of first-degree murder after the death of his wife, police said.
Denver officers arrested Brian Mervin, 50, on investigation of a “domestic violence-related homicide” after his wife died Monday, according to a news release from the police department.
Just after 6 p.m. Monday, Mervin flagged down someone in the 4000 block of North Adams Street — about three miles north of the Denver Zoo and Museum of Nature and Science — and asked them to call 911, stating that he found his wife on the ground struggling to breathe, according to the police department.
Denver paramedics took the woman to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said in the news release.
After first responders noticed the woman’s injuries, detectives began investigating her death as a homicide, police said. Police officials did not elaborate on the nature or extent of the woman’s injuries but stated they were consistent with an assault.
Mervin was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder in his wife’s death and is next set to appear in court at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for an advisement hearing.
