A 24-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal Aurora shooting was arrested by Atlanta police last week for allegedly committing a separate murder in Georgia.
David Kinney was arrested in Atlanta on Thursday for allegedly shooting and killing a man there on Aug. 13, according to a press release from the Atlanta Police Department. Kinney was also being sought by Aurora police on suspicion of first-degree murder for the Aug. 5 shooting of Kerris Silva, 27, at an area gas station, an Aurora police spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
Kinney has been charged in Georgia with murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the Atlanta release. He’s charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man walking a dog at an apartment complex last week. The dog was missing after the incident but has since been recovered, according to police.
Silva was shot at an Aurora gas station on Aug. 5 after getting into an argument with his assailant, who was parked in the vehicle next to Silva. The suspect, who police believe was Kinney, fled the scene after the shooting, and Silva later died at the hospital. Police spokesperson Sydney Edwards said Aurora police was contacted by law enforcement in Fulton County, where Atlanta is, to tell them that Kinney had been arrested there.
Kinney appeared to have active warrants for other cases in Aurora, too. Records matching his name and date of birth indicate Kinney had warrants for 14 charges tied to two separate cases: One, from 2021, included charges of aggravated robbery with a weapon, illegally discharging a firearm and first-degree assault. The other, from 2020, was for four counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
