AP Player of the Week: Jaylyn Sherrod of Colorado had career-high 34 points in win over Utah

The Associated Press national player of the week in women’s basketball for Week 8 of the season:

JAYLYN SHERROD, Colorado

The 5-foot-7 graduate student guard from Birmingham, Alabama, had a career-high 34 points as well as six steals, four rebounds and four assists in the fifth-ranked Buffaloes win over then-No. 12 Utah. Sherrod scored 13 of her points in the fourth quarter as the Buffaloes outscored the Utes 25-11. Her effort matched the ninth-best scoring total for a Colorado player in a single game.

RUNNER-UP

Ta’Niya Latson, Florida State. The sophomore guard from Miami, led the Seminoles to two wins last week, averaging 30 point and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field and 50% from behind the 3-point line. She had 20 of her 30 points against Wake Forest in the second half.

Caitlin Clark (Iowa), Aaliyah Edwards (UConn) and Jada Walker (Baylor).

KEEP AN EYE ON

McKenna Hofschild of Colorado State. Had 34 points and 12 assists for her sixth double-double of the season in an overtime loss at San Diego State. The 5-2 graduate student guard also had six rebounds. Hofschild also played at Seton Hall and Northern Iowa.
