CU student wakes to 3 a.m. armed burglary; police search for suspect

Boulder police are investigating after a University of Colorado student living off campus reported an armed burglary early Friday morning.

The male student woke up about 3 a.m. to an unknown man going through his belongings. He chased the man out of the house, said police spokesperson Jamie Barker.

While running out of the house, the burglary suspect yelled out that he had a gun. But there was no visual of the weapon, and officers couldn’t confirm the man was armed, Barker said.

Boulder police received the initial call at 3:08 a.m. and were at the scene in the 1000 block of Pleasant Street, near 10th Street and the West End District, shortly after.

The suspect has not been located, and detectives are searching for a 5-foot-10 white man with a darker complexion, gray hoodie and multicolor hat, Barker said.

CU issued a shelter-in-place order for the area near the house at 3:31 a.m. but lifted it at 4:19 a.m., according to emergency alert records.

Anyone with information about the incident or suspect should call the Boulder police nonemergency line at 303-441-3333 or email Sgt. Patrick Meehan at meehanp@bouldercolorado.gov.
