A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after he allegedly shot a man during a late-night gathering at Crown Hill Cemetery, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Wheat Ridge police responded to the cemetery at 7777 W. 29th Ave. around 11 p.m. Saturday to reports of a shooting and found a man with a gunshot wound and a woman with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was also taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Sheriff’s deputies took over the investigation after Wheat Ridge police found it was in the county’s jurisdiction.
Investigators found “several people who know each other” went to the cemetery to visit a friend’s grave when a fight broke out, leading to the assault and shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies arrested Ryan Trujillo-Falcon on suspicion of first-degree murder and second-degree assault.
