A driver was arrested in Arapahoe County after crashing into and injuring a boy on an e-bike in Douglas County and then fleeing the scene.
The driver — a 31-year-old woman who sheriff’s officials have not identified — was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving causing bodily injury, driving with open containers, driving on an expired license and failing to provide information to law enforcement after an accident, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6 p.m. Monday, Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash near Inverness Parkway and South Jamaica Street — just west of Park Meadows Mall in Douglas County — where the driver hit a juvenile male crossing the street on an e-bike and left the scene, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday morning.
Deputies were able to use traffic cameras in the area to identify and track the suspect vehicle to Arapahoe County, the sheriff’s office said.
After being alerted that the suspect had entered their jurisdiction, Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies located and detained the woman until Douglas County deputies arrived and took custody, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
She was arrested near the area of East Hinsdale Drive and East Hinsdale Circle in Centennial on Monday, about 6 miles northeast of the original crash, Douglas County Deputy Cocha Heyden said.
Paramedics took the boy who was injured in the accident to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released, sheriff’s officials said.
