Spring-like temperatures have returned to Colorado Friday, but the state’s next snowstorm is less than a day away.
Denver can expect a mostly sunny Friday, with temperature highs reaching 65 degrees during the afternoon, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
Warm, dry conditions across the state prompted the weather service to issue a hazardous weather outlook for parts of the plains, warning residents of potential fire danger and issuing a red flag warning for southern Lincoln County from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.
While Lincoln County was the only county with an active red flag warning, most of eastern Colorado — including Boulder and the Denver area — was under fire weather watch as of 7 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS.
Critical fire conditions and heavy winds will be replaced with rain and snow Saturday, according to NWS meteorologists. The snowstorm is expected to start in the mountains Saturday night and move into the Denver area by Sunday morning, NWS said.
Just how much snow will stick on the ground before the storm moves out of the city Monday night is still up in the air.
