Colorado weather: Tornadoes, severe storms in northeastern plains

3:56 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm warning for Haxtun, Paoli and Dailey warns of wind gusts up to 60 mph and possible golf-ball sized hail until 4:30 p.m.

3:34 p.m.: A tornado touched down southeast of Fleming, moving east-southeast with golf-ball sized hail around 3:16 p.m., according to an update from the NWS.

Update 3:10 p.m.:Tornadoes and pea-sized hail are possible in part of Colorado’s northeast corner this afternoon, according to NWS offices.

Forecasters issued a tornado warning at 2:47 p.m. for Fleming, Iliff, Crook, Proctor and Dailey until 3:30 p.m., with pea-sized hail possible.

Hartman, Bristol, Granada and Holly may see wind gusts up to 55 mph and nickel-sized hail until 3:45 p.m.

Original reporting: Showers and thunderstorms are expected across Colorado this afternoon with strong to severe storms and hail possible in the northeast plains, according to the National Weather Service.

Isolated showers and storms will move east across northeast and north central Colorado this afternoon and evening. More wind than rain is expected, with gusts up to 45 mph. Strong to severe storms are possible in the northeast corner and east of Sterling, with large hail and damaging winds possible.

The Denver Metro area will be mostly sunny with a high of 82 degrees today and a 20% chance of showers after 2 p.m. Temperatures will dip to 48 degrees tonight with gusts up to 22 mph.

Monday will be warm and mostly sunny with a high of 75 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms may return with a 30% chance of precipitation after noon and possible showers and a thunderstorm Monday night. The low will be around 46 degrees with a 60% chance of precipitation after 9 p.m.

Rain and thunderstorms may continue throughout the day Tuesday with a 70% chance of precipitation. Storms are expected that night, with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight.

Possibly severe isolated thunderstorms are expected in the eastern plains this afternoon, especially around noon and 3 p.m. The strongest storm may produce half-dollar sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, according to NWS forecasters.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms north of I-70 may produce gusty winds and small hail in portions of northwest, southwest and west central Colorado today.

Storms are expected on Monday afternoon for most of Colorado, with strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall, hail and gusty winds possible in the plains. Scattered showers and storms may continue into Tuesday, with light snow possible in the mountains.

Warmer, drier weather is expected later in the week, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoons.
