An end to frigid temperatures in Denver is on the horizon, but not before setting a daily record Tuesday.
The Arctic cold blast will leave the area by Tuesday midday, and temperatures will reach nearly 50 degrees by the weekend, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said.
The temperature recorded at Denver International Airport early Tuesday morning at 12:34 a.m. reached 19 degrees below zero, tying the daily low record set in 1930, according to NWS Boulder on X. It was just 10 degrees shy of the all-time record cold for the city.

Wind chills in Denver Tuesday morning were consistently in the minus teens, with the lowest reaching 23 degrees below zero just before 1 a.m.
The wind chill warning in place across the east side of the state is set to expire at 11 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures get 10 and 15 degrees warmer than yesterday. Highs across the state will be between 25 and 35 degrees.
Denver’s Tuesday high is 35 degrees.
Denver will have highs in the mid-40s and lows around 20 degrees Wednesday and Thursday before another small cold front drops Thursday night’s low temperature to seven degrees and Friday’s high temperature to 31 degrees. Then, Saturday will see a return to nearly 50 degrees.

Denver’s emergency overnight shelters will be extended through 7 a.m. Friday as overnight lows remain below freezing, city officials announced Tuesday morning.
The mountains, which have seen feet of snow during snowstorms over the extended Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, will see a dry Tuesday before another bout of snow Wednesday and Thursday.
Blowing snow due to high winds is likely across the high country, especially in the higher mountain passes.
Heavy snow is likely across the mountains north of Interstate 70 during the Wednesday-Thursday snowstorm.
