Temperatures from 95 to 100 degrees and scattered afternoon thunderstorms are expected across Colorado again today, according to the National Weather Service.
Highs in the mid 90s and low 100s are expected today in northeast Colorado. Isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms may produce wind gusts up to 50 mph, but little rainfall, in the northeast and north central portions of the state, NWS meteorologists said.
A heat advisory is in effect for the Denver metro area from 11 a.m. this morning to 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 90s.
Cooling centers around Denver will be open Monday and Tuesday, according to the city. Denver Parks and Recreation will provide the public with a designated cooling off area in each rec center during normal business hours. The area will have drinking water, restrooms and a place to sit. Denver Public Library locations are also available as an escape from the heat.
Today will be sunny with a high of 96 degrees and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. in the Denver Metro area. Temperatures tonight will dip to 64 degrees, according to the NWS.
Tuesday will also be sunny with a high of 96 degrees. There is a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight on Tuesday with a low of 63 degrees, NWS forecasters said.
High temperatures are expected again on Wednesday with a high of 95 degrees. Rain may arrive in the Denver area that afternoon with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Storms may continue overnight before midnight with gusts up to 21 mph and a low of 64 degrees.
Portions of central, east central, south central and southeast Colorado may see dangerously hot temperatures today, especially in El Paso, Pueblo and eastern Fremont counties, according to the NWS. A high of 103 degrees is expected today in the Pueblo area, with temperatures up to 97 degrees in Canon City and 95 in Colorado Springs.
Scattered and isolated storms are expected near and along the mountains today and across the southern plains. Small hail, wind gusts up to 55 mph and lightning may be possible.
There may be thunderstorms across Colorado Wednesday through Friday. Strong to severe storms may be possible with heavy rain, small hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, according to the NWS.
