A Colorado Springs police officer shot an armed man early Saturday after a pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle, the police department reported on X.
Police and El Paso County deputies were trying to find a suspected stolen vehicle used in violent crimes in both jurisdictions when they found it about 4 a.m. in the 5900 block of Constitution Avenue, according to the police department. Officers and deputies attempted to contact the driver, who fled.
Officers then conducted a “force stop method” on the vehicle, according to the department, and a man with a handgun got out of the vehicle.
At least one officer then fired at the man, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police apprehended several other occupants who fled the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting.
