Class 5A

1. Cherry Creek (1-0) won vs. No. 2 Ralston Valley, 35-9: QB Brady Vodicka and Maxwell Lovett hooked up for a pair of touchdown passes between the second and third quarters to take a 21-9 lead, Creek cashed in a botched punt snap with a 1-yard Jayden Fox TD run after that, and the Bruins defense stood tall. Next week: vs. Legacy, 7 p.m. Aug. 31

2. Ralston Valley (1-1) lost at No. 1 Cherry Creek, 35-9: Kyle Phipps’ fumble return touchdown gave RV a 9-7 lead late in the first quarter, but top-ranked Creek kept the Mustangs offense out of the end zone and denied them a shot at their second straight win over a ranked team to start the season. Next week: Bye

3. Pine Creek (1-0) won vs. Las Vegas, forfeit: A matchup with out-of-state Las Vegas was for naught after the Nevada-based program was forced to forfeit. Next week: vs. No. 5 Valor Christian, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

4. Grandview (1-0) won vs. Overland, 48-6: QB Liam Szarka completed 11 of 14 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns, sophomore Chris Blanks ran for 100 yards on seven carries and junior Donavon Vernon added 83 yards on eight carries as the Wolves rolled. Next week: vs. Fossil Ridge, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

5. Valor Christian (0-1) lost at No. 6 Regis Jesuit, 24-21: For the second year in a row, the Eagles were dealt a loss by the Raiders in a down-to-the-wire season finale. QB Asher Weiner ran for a touchdown and threw for another, the latter a 10-yard hookup with Cash Spence that helped tie the game at 21-all with 8:51 to go after the two also connected on a two-point conversion. But a last-ditch drive ended in a fourth down interception. Next week: at No. 3 Pine Creek, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

6. Regis Jesuit (1-0) won vs. No. 5 Valor Christian, 24-21: Albert Medina found the end zone three times, twice on passes from Peyton Lindell and once on a 2-yard run with 2:58 left in the third quarter that gave Regis a 21-13 lead. Valor tied the game early in the fourth, but Jack Manthey put the Raiders ahead for good with a 24-yard field goal with 5:41 left in the game. Lawson Douglas sealed it with an interception. Next week: vs. Kennedy Catholic (Burien, Wash.), 7 p.m. Sept. 2

7. Columbine (1-0) won vs. Mullen, 56-6: In the first of four road games to start the season, the Rebels jumped ahead to a 21-6 lead by halftime, Tyler Kriegshauser scored on a long run early in the third quarter and the defense scored a pair of TDs to pull away in the second half. Next week: at Freedom (Orlando, Fla.), 5 p.m. Aug. 31

8. Mountain Vista (1-1) won at 4A No. 4 Heritage, 35-34: Jack Blais scored from two yards out to put the Golden Eagles ahead 35-28 late in the third quarter, and the Mountain Vista defense denied a two-point conversion attempt with less than two minutes remaining to survive. Next week: vs. Fort Collins, 7 p.m. Aug. 31

9. Fairview (1-0) won at Highlands Ranch, 44-3: The Fairview defense had four takeaways in the second half alone, including a pick-six, in an impressive Week 1 showing for a program best known for its explosive offense. Next week: vs. Lakewood, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

10. Chatfield (2-0) won at Cherokee Trail, 27-24: With CT driving to retake the lead in the the fourth quarter of a wild back-and-forth game, the Chargers recovered a fumble near their own goal line and held on from there to start the season with a second straight win. Next week: Bye

Class 4A

1. Erie (0-1) lost at Vanguard (Ocala, Fla.), 26-20: The Tigers’ fourth-quarter rally came up short on a cross-county road trip to Florida. Next week: vs. Mullen, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

2. Palmer Ridge (1-0) won vs. No. 7 Montrose, 28-27: The Bears rallied from 12 points down at halftime, as QB Derek Hester ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in the comeback win. The latter, a hookup with Jimmer Weir, put the Bears ahead for good in the fourth. Weir had six catches for 107 yards. Next week: at No. 9 Mesa Ridge, 7 p.m. Aug. 31

3. Broomfield (1-0) won at Longmont, 42-14: Colin Torres ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries, and CT Worley had 145 yards on 12-of-19 passing in his first varsity start under center as the defending 4A champions ran their win streak to 15 games. Next week: vs. 3A No. 4 Holy Family, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

4. Heritage (0-1) lost vs. 5A No. 8 Mountain Vista, 35-34: The Eagles went for the win late on a two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter but came up empty against the 5A Golden Eagles. Next week: at Arapahoe, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

5. Ponderosa (1-0) won vs. Fort Collins, 56-21: A pair of Marcus Price passing touchdowns late in the second quarter gave Ponderosa a 29-7 lead going into halftime, and the Mustangs jumped ahead 42-7 in the third before taking their foot off the gas. Next week: vs. Chaparral, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

6. Dakota Ridge (0-1) lost vs. Pueblo West, 21-14: Gavin Lockett ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another, and the Cyclones defense kept Dakota Ridge scoreless in the second half. Next week: at East River (Orlando, Fla.), 7 p.m. Sept. 1

7. Montrose (0-1) lost at No. 2 Palmer Ridge, 28-27: Alonzo Trujillo scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Elijah Womack and Austin Zimmer also found the end zone, but the Red Hawks were unable to score on their final two possessions. Next week: vs. Fruita Monument, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

8. Loveland (1-0) won vs. Fossil Ridge, 28-26: The Red Wolves put together a pair of long scoring drives at the start of the third quarter to take a 28-20 lead, then made a critical stop on a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to hang on against the 5A SaberCats. Next week: vs. Mountain View, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

9. Mesa Ridge (1-0) won at Kennedy, 57-0: Fresh off their first eight-win season in 10 years, the Grizzlies submitted a statement win in Week 1 with their first shutout in 19 games. Next week: vs. No. 2 Palmer Ridge, 7 p.m. Aug. 31

10. Denver South (1-0) won vs. Skyline, 48-19: The Ravens got their season off to an explosive start, scoring 40-plus points for the eighth time in their last 12 games, including a 45-24 win at Skyline in last year’s lid-lifter. Next week: at Denver East, 11 a.m. Sept. 2

Class 3A

1. Lutheran (1-0) won at Lutheran (St. Peters, Mo.), 56-6. Next week: vs. Mead, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

2. Green Mountain (1-0) won vs. Golden, 36-0. Next week: at Severance, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

3. Roosevelt (1-0) won at No. 7 Palisade, 49-6. Next week: vs. Kennedy, 7 p.m. Sept. 1

4. Holy Family (1-0) won vs. No. 6 Frederick, 28-8. Next week: vs. 4A No. 3 Broomfield, 7 p.m. Sept. 1
