These Avalanche players have scored 100 points in a single season

Nathan MacKinnon joined an elite club Tuesday night, scoring his 100th point of the regular season during the Avalanche’s 4-3 overtime win over the Sharks. Teammate Mikko Rantanen joined shortly after, passing the century mark on Sunday.

It marked just the sixth and seventh times an Avs player has reached the mark since the franchise moved to Denver in 1995.

Here’s a look at every Avalanche player to reach 100 points in a season, from most points to least:

1. Joe Sakic — 120 (1995-96)

Super Joe put on a show in the team’s first season in Denver after moving from Quebec. The Avalanche captain put up his career high in points by notching 51 goals and a personal-best 69 assists. Colorado went on to win the Stanley Cup and Sakic was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.

2. Joe Sakic — 118 (2000-01)

Another big season, another Stanley Cup. Sakic put up a career-high 54 goals and added 64 assists to lead Colorado to its second championship. He also racked up several awards, including the Hart Memorial Trophy, the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award.

3. Peter Forsberg — 116 (1995-96)

While Peter the Great tallied the third-most points in Avs history, he finished second on the team that season behind Sakic. The then-22-year-old Forsberg had 30 goals and an astonishing 86 assists for the championship-winning squad.

4. Nathan MacKinnon — 111 (2022-23)

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NHL entry draft came close to reaching the century mark several times in his career, thrice reaching the 90s but falling just short. In his 65th game of the season, MacKinnon joined the exclusive club with an overtime goal over the Sharks on April 4, 2023. He finished the regular season with career-highs in goals (42) and assists (69).

5. Peter Forsberg — 106 (2002-03)

Forsberg finished with 29 goals and 77 assists en route to earning the Art Ross Trophy for most points in the NHL that season. He also won the Hart Memorial Trophy.

6. Mikko Rantanen — 105 (2022-23)

With the defending Stanley Cup champions dealing with injuries, Moose stepped up his scoring pace, putting up the most number of goals by an Avalanche player in two decades. By reaching 100 points, Rantanen and MacKinnon became only the second pair of Avs teammates to each pass the century mark — and first since Sakic and Forsberg in the team’s inaugural season in Denver. He finished with 50 assists and a career-best 55 goals.

7. Joe Sakic — 100 (2006-07)

At 37 years old, the captain put up his sixth and final 100-point season, earning a 12th All-Star nod along the way. The team, however, just missed the postseason, finishing ninth in the West, just one point behind division rival Calgary for the final playoff spot.
