A suspect has been arrested in a cold case homicide in Ignacio. The victim was shot as he was walking home on New Year’s Day 2009.
Larry Fuller, 49, a father of four, was shot about 2 a.m. after leaving a local bar, the Sidekick Lounge, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
David Hendren, 38, was arrested May 18 at the Navajo Nation in Arizona. Hendren faces a first-degree-murder charge and is awaiting extradition to Durango, where he will be jailed by the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office (LPCSO).
In February, the Ignacio Police Department asked the CBI to take the lead in the cold case investigation, according to a news release. Recent interviews with witnesses led to Hendren’s arrest. The CBI, the sheriff’s office and the Ignacio, Navajo and Southern Ute police departments have collaborated in the case.
Fuller, a diesel mechanic, was alone when he was shot in the 300 block of Goddard Avenue, about three blocks away from the bar. He died at the scene. Fuller had moved to Colorado in 2000. Investigators believe the shooting is connected to an altercation at the bar that night.
