High water in Coal Creek Canyon west of metro Denver was spilling across Colorado 72, prompting state transportation officials to close the road and the National Weather Service to issue alerts.

The Coal Creek flooding was creating problems along the highway, which is closed between Colorado 93 and Twin Spruce Road.

“This will be an extended full closure until the water subsides and repairs can be made,” transportation officials said on Twitter.
