Club Q to reopen as “The Q” in new Satellite Hotel location

Club Q, the Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ nightclub targeted in a mass shooting last November that killed five people, has announced plans to reopen in a new location under a slightly different name.

The club will reopen as “The Q” in a new location at the Satellite Hotel in Colorado Springs.

The original location will not be reopening, according to a Tuesday news release, though the memorial for the victims, Daniel Aston, Raymond Green Vance, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh and Derrick Rump, is still in the works.

Club management also said they are offering any former employee the opportunity to return and join the new team.

“Both locally and nationally, Club Q’s reopening sends a strong message that hate will not win, love will always prevail,” Club Q’s management said in the Tuesday announcement. “Over the last 11 months we have heard the perspectives of survivors, victims’ families and the greater community. The voices are overwhelmingly strong, Club Q must return – when and where has been the main debate.”

The club has been closed since the November 2022 attack, and management had previously announced it would reopen its original location with the memorial for the victims.

The memorial is in the final approval process, and they said they intend to begin construction “very soon.”

Club management said some people in the LGBTQ+ community feel that returning to the original build this soon “will hinder their healing process.”

The new location will hopefully be a place where the healing can continue and where the Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ community can rebuild, they said.

The Q will also be a safe space for transgender people and for people to express themselves with drag.

“Safe venues are still very important,” the announcement stated. “Transgender people are being attacked and legislated against throughout the country and the art of drag is under attack as grooming. The Q, in the tradition of Club Q, will stand up to these attacks.”
