The boat ramp on the west side of Cherry Creek Reservoir will open for the season on Saturday, and it might even bring good weather for boating. The National Weather Service is predicting a high temperature of 63 degrees with sunny skies.
Officials say the reservoir’s east boat ramp will open sometime after April as conditions permit.
According to a press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, motorized boaters should prepare for the season by registering their boats and completing an Aquatic Nuisance Species Inspection. They are also advised to inspect and test life jackets and other safety equipment.
Hand-launched non-motorized watercraft such as kayaks, canoes and paddleboards do not require inspections and do not have to use boat ramps.
At Chatfield State Park, the north boat ramp opened last Saturday, and the opening day for the south boat ramp is yet to be determined.
Cherry Creek and Chatfield consistently rank as Colorado’s second- and third-busiest state parks behind only Lake Pueblo. Cherry Creek attracted more than 2.2 million visitors in 2022 and Chatfield had more than 1.9 million.
