A broken water main sent a column of water 15 feet in the air and caused a 12-foot sinkhole to open up in a Centennial neighborhood Sunday, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies are responding to a water main break near the 4300 block of East Hinsdale Place, the sheriff’s office said on X at 12:11 p.m.
Denver Water crews are working to put a temporary patch on the line, which could take up to six hours, according to the agency. Crews have not yet determined what caused the pipe to burst.
The intersection of East Hinsdale Place and South Clermont Drive is closed, and residents could be without water “for quite some time,” the sheriff’s office said.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
