Broomfield football coach Blair Hubbard placed on paid administrative leave, pending outcome of investigation

Broomfield head football coach Blair Hubbard has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation, according to an email sent by principal Ginger Ramsey on Wednesday night.

Hubbard, who last month led the Eagles to their first title since 1984, is also a physical education teacher at the school. He is 64-19 in seven seasons with Broomfield, and was previously the head coach at Faith Christian and Lutheran.

In the email sent to Broomfield parents and staff, Ramsey wrote “in recent days we notified Hubbard’s classes and team of his absence.”

Hubbard was initially placed on leave Dec. 15, according to Boulder Valley School District chief communications officer Randy Barber.

“While there is no further information we can share at this time, because it is a personnel matter, I want everyone to know that we believe in conducting a thorough investigation and providing due process for those involved,” Ramsey wrote. “As a result, we ask for your patience and understanding as this work continues.”

Hubbard was named the Broncos high school coach of the year in 2022, making him a finalist for the NFL national high school coach of the year award, after the Eagles went from 5-6 in 2021 to a perfect 14-0 and the Class 4A championship. The Eagles, who featured All-Colorado quarterback and Wisconsin commit Cole LaCrue in addition to a stout defense, beat Loveland 24-14 in the title game at Empower Field.

Barber said Hubbard (228-54 all-time) is the subject of an internal investigation by the Boulder Valley School District, not a police investigation. Broomfield has not yet named an interim head football coach.

“If anyone has any information they would like to share with investigators, please connect with me,” Ramsey wrote.

Hubbard did not return calls or messages for comment from The Denver Post. Broomfield athletic director Steve Shelton declined comment, echoing Ramsey’s statement that he couldn’t provide more details because it’s a district personnel matter.
