Odds and ends

*Before practice, the Broncos signed RBs Stevie Scott and Jaquan Hardy.

*Practice No. 13 was another of those jog-through exercises for the Broncos ahead of Thursday’s joint workout with the Dallas Cowboys.

“First and foremost, you want to protect your team and their team,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said. “You want great competition and it’s always great to go against somebody else instead of the same guys over and over. We want to get work done with them. (Cowboys) coach (Mike) McCarthy and I have talked and he’s on the same page as me.”

Said LT Garett Bolles: “It’s going to be nice to go against somebody else so going against them will show us where we’re at.”

*The Broncos play Dallas on Saturday night. Hackett didn’t reveal his play-time decisions … if those decisions have been made.

“Every person is different,” he said of veterans playing in the exhibition games. “Some guys want to get a couple hits and get out. We’re going to treat everybody a little different and see what’s best for us. In the end, it’s all about the season. The preseason is a great time to evaluate other people and see who can help us and I’m excited for them. But when it comes to some of the guys we know we’re going to depend on, we’re going to make sure we do what’s right for them.”

*QB Russell Wilson was a regular preseason participant from 2012-19, but the’ 20 preseason was cancelled and he didn’t play last year.

“A guy of his caliber who has been doing it for this long, I don’t think (playing in the preseason) is as important,” Hackett said.

*The Broncos have faced attrition at running back. Damarea Crockett (ACL) is out for the year and rookie Tyreik McAllister was injured Tuesday. If Javonte Williams doesn’t play Saturday and Melvin Gordon (foot) is held out, that would leave a full game’s worth of carries for Mike Boone, Max Borghi and newcomers Scott and Hardy.

Thursday’s schedule

Practice with the Cowboys at 11 a.m.
