London to New Orleans to Denver: New Broncos RB Latavius Murray’s whirlwind week

Latavius Murray rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown Sunday for the Saints in London against the Vikings.

Then he arrived back in New Orleans about 2 a.m. Monday. By the afternoon, he heard from his agent that signing with Denver might be an option. Then, after a couple of hours of relaxation, he headed for the airport.

By 1 p.m. Tuesday, he was talking with reporters in Denver’s locker room after his first practice as a Bronco.

“Hopped on a flight late, around like 7:50 in New Orleans and got in about midnight last night,” Murray said. … “I’m happy to be here.”

Talk about a whirlwind start to the week.

The next question: Could he realistically play Thursday night against Indianapolis?

“I think anything is possible,” he said. “Right now I’m not sure what the plan is, but for me I’m just trying to soak everything in.”

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said his staff is still “working through” what, if any, role the veteran back might have this week in the wake of losing starter Javonte Williams for the season to a knee injury.

“I’ve known Latavius for a while now and he’s another great pro,” Hackett said. “We might have some of the biggest running backs in the league right now. Just having that guy, a guy that’s done it for so long, can pass-pro, can catch, it’s something that’s great for our team. Also as a person and a leader, I’m very glad that he’s here.”

Murray, a 10-year veteran, has played in 123 career games (69 starts) between the Ravens, Vikings, Ravens and Saints, and has rushed for 5,549 yards and 52 TDs.

Gregory to short-term IR. Randy Gregory will miss several weeks after the Broncos placed him on injured reserve Tuesday.

The outside linebacker had a knee scope to determine the extent of his absence and Denver decided to place him on the list, which means he’ll miss a minimum of four weeks. He’ll be eligible to come back for Denver’s Week 10 road game against the Titans if he’s healthy by then.

The Broncos also, as expected, put Williams on season-ending injured reserve.

Wilson confident. Quarterback Russell Wilson’s been listed as a limited participant each of the past two days with right shoulder soreness, but said Tuesday he’s “super confident” he’ll play against the Colts.

Hackett said Monday that Wilson will be receiving treatment on his shoulder each day this week. The veteran quarterback said he expects to be able to operate and throw against the Colts with “no limitations.”

Denver only had a walk-through Tuesday, so practice statuses, including Wilson’s, are estimations. The Broncos have a short practice slated for Wednesday as well.

Injury updates. Rookie tight end Greg Dulcich and cornerback Michael Ojemudia did not start their return-to-play clocks Tuesday, Hackett confirmed. Both remain on short-term injured reserve. Other practice statues from Tuesday:

DNP: RG Quinn Meinerz (hamstring), OLB Jonathon Cooper (hamstring), S P.J. Locke (concussion), OLB Aaron Patrick (concussion).

Limited: WR Tyrie Cleveland (hamstring), S Caden Sterns (chest/hip), OL Billy Turner (knee), RB Melvin Gordon (neck), CB Darrius Phillips (hamstring).

Full: DB K’Waun Williams (hand), LG Dalton Risner (ankle).
