The Broncos are starting to get healthy at safety.
They activated P.J. Locke off injured reserve Saturday, meaning he’ll join Justin Simmons (hip/groin) in returning to action Sunday against the New York Jets.
Locke dislocated his big toe late in training camp and spent time in a walking boot before starting rehab work. Though head coach Sean Payton initially downplayed the injury, saying Locke would “be fine,” the Broncos placed Locke on injured reserve after the roster cutdown to 53 players.
That move made him ineligible to return until this week. Over the past couple of weeks, he’s been moved without limitation during the open portions of practice and backed that up by jumping right into work as a full participant in practice on Wednesday.
Now he can work back into game action on special teams and perhaps in rotation at safety with Simmons, who has missed the past two games himself due to injury, and Kareem Jackson.
Denver had a roster spot open for Locke after finalizing Randy Gregory’s trade to San Francisco on Friday afternoon.
