Kickin’ It with Kiz: As rookie Marvin Mims Jr. enters Broncos receiving room is Courtland Sutton headed for the exit?

I think trading up to draft Marvin Mims Jr. of Oklahoma signals many changes to come to the Broncos’ wide receiver room.

M.S., anticipates falling dominoes

Kiz: If Mims is all that as a receiver and a bag of chips as a kick-returner, then Montrell Washington is as good as gone, and it’s likely Courtland Sutton will be headed for the door no later than 2024. But drafting Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders in the third round also made me wonder how satisfied the new coaching staff is with crowd-favorite Josey Jewell entering the final year of his contract.

The biggest takeaway from the Broncos’ draft? The real answer is Sean Payton. It feels good to have a proven and experienced winner as head coach. Better days for the Broncos are very near.

Scott, sunshine in his forecast

Kiz: The Broncos’ aggressive nature, trading up twice in the draft, caused Payton to turn and tell general manager George Paton: “It was exciting, wasn’t it?” Make no mistake. The coach is in charge here. Paton works for Payton.

After the draft, the Broncos look like 5-12 again.

Jeremy, bourbon-lover

Kiz: The NFL squad in our dusty old cowtown has some serious personnel issues. But the biggest upgrade in coaching from one season to the next in franchise history will give the Broncos a real chance to make the playoffs. My story. Sticking to it.

Do you think Coach Prime’s ego couldn’t stand the idea of Montana Lemonious-Craig eclipsing his son’s reputation on the CU Buffs football team? We saw John Elway’s ego choose the most amazingly bad quarterbacks for the Broncos … OK with one exception (Peyton Manning).

Fred, no “I” in team

Kiz: After starring in the CU spring game, with six catches for 169 yards, Lemonious-Craig stole a page out of Deion Sanders’ book and looked out for No. 1. He followed the money to greener pastures. In college football, loyalty no longer means a thing. But this is what was crummy about the big turnover in personnel: If players from that 1-11 CU team of last season were wretched and worthless in the eyes of Sanders, why did he keep them around as fodder at spring practice before running them off? That’s beyond cynical. It’s disrespectful and dishonest.

How does the Rockies’ hitting coach keep his job? Hensley Meulens must advocate using a bat for a non-contact sport.

Phil, Cheyenne

Kiz: Last time the crack staff here at Kickin’ It Headquarters checked, our Pet Rocks were striking out 24.8% of the time they stood in the batter’s box. Not good. But what’s surprising is Colorado ranks no worse than 21st among 30 major-league teams in what has become a swing-and-a-miss game.

And today’s parting shot insists the Avs are absolutely correct in staying mum about the mysterious absence of Valeri Nichuskin from the team.

Sure, we miss Nichushkin. But do we have to know the personal reasons why? Avs coach Jared Bednar and the front office are doing what great cultures do: Support a player under any condition.
