Broncos to name Ben Kotwica special teams coordinator, according to reports

Once again, the Broncos are turning to a new face to fix an old problem.

The Broncos have come to an agreement with Ben Kotwica to be their special teams coordinator as part of Sean Payton’s new coaching staff, according to multiple media reports.

Kotwica will be the fourth coach to handle special teams since the start of the 2021 season, following Tom McMahon in Vic Fangio’s last season as head coach, Dwayne Stukes for 15 games under Nathaniel Hackett and interim head coach Jerry Rosburg once Hackett was fired with two games left in the 2022 campaign.

Kotwica has spent 15 seasons coaching in the NFL, most recently as an assistant special teams coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. Prior to that he coordinated special teams for the New York Jets (2013), Washington (2014-18) and Atlanta (2019-20).

The Broncos’ special teams have been among the worst in the league for the past seven years. The team specifically drafted a return specialist in Montrell Washington last season, but he was inactive once Rosburg took over in the final two weeks.
