“Ted Lasso” star kicks off stand-up comedy tour in Denver this fall

Actor Brett Goldstein, who recently stole viewers’ hearts as foul-mouthed soccer player and coach Roy Kent on the Apple TV series “Ted Lasso,” is preparing to embark on his first U.S. stand-up comedy tour. He’ll be here, he’ll be there, he’ll be every-effing-where — including Denver.

In fact, Goldstein’s “The Second Best Night of Your Life” tour kicks off at the Mile High City’s Buell Theatre on Oct. 5. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday at 10 a.m. via axs.com following a pre-sale that begins on Wednesday.

In 2021, Goldstein notched two Emmy Awards for his role on “Ted Lasso” and he’s nominated for a third in the category for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series this year. But the wholesome show — during which viewers watch the stone-cold Kent transform into a soft-on-the-inside coach over the course of three seasons — is hardly the only character he’s played recently.

Fans of Marvel movies will also recognize Goldstein as Hercules from 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He also co-created the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking” starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.

Still, Roy Kent won’t be totally absent from Goldstein’s comedy act. “There will be swears,” he promised on Instagram.

Earlier this year, Goldstein performed a few select stand-up dates on the West Coast. The San Francisco Chronicle said it was “jarring to see the Emmy-winning actor and director step outside of the role that made him famous” all while using fewer F-bombs than characteristic — a sentiment to which we can only assume Roy Kent would have a few choice words.

After Denver, “The Second Best Night of Your Life” tour hits Boston, Minneapolis, Sacramento, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Portland. See the full schedule at brettgoldsteintour.com.
